Choose your ideal riding position with EMQ®

Your EMQ® folding bike can be adjusted to suit your personal preferences. With three different handlebars to choose from, you can select the riding position that feels right for you:

  • Choose your ideal riding position with the different EMQ® handlebars
  • Different grips for maximum grip and hand support
  • Choice of high-quality saddles, from extra comfort to pressure-relieving options
  • A wide range of accessories to suit your personal preferences

Sporty

With the standard straight EMQ® handlebar, you sit in a sporty position on the folding bike. This allows you to transfer maximum power through your legs while reducing wind resistance. The straight handlebar also folds closest to the bike, keeping the folded package as compact as possible.

For even greater comfort, combine this handlebar with the optional Ergotec® ergonomic grips. They support the hands, provide additional grip and help relieve pressure on the wrists.

Active

The gently curved Ergotec® Ladytown MAS handlebar — despite the name, an excellent choice for both men and women — gives you a more upright riding position and reduces strain on the hands, wrists, shoulders and neck.

A comfortable alternative to the sporty position, without adding too much width when the bike is folded.

Relaxed

Prefer to ride fully upright, like on a city bike? That’s possible too. The Ergotec® CityCruiser handlebar gives you an upright riding position that relieves pressure on your back while allowing your shoulders, neck, wrists and hands to stay relaxed.

Please note: because of its curved shape, this handlebar makes the bike slightly wider when folded. We recommend taking this into account during your test ride.

Which folding bike is right for you?

Are you mainly looking for the lightest possible folding bike, would you like electric assistance, or is a natural and comfortable riding experience most important to you? Within the EMQ® range, you can choose from one lightweight non-electric folding bike and two lightweight electric folding bikes, each with its own distinct riding experience.

Below, we answer the most frequently asked questions about the differences between the EMQ® Motion/16″, Lite/16″ and Advanced/16″. This makes it easier to discover which folding bike best suits the way you want to travel and ride.

Frequently asked questions about choosing a folding bike

Which EMQ® folding bike is right for me?

That mainly depends on what matters most to you, both while riding and when taking the bike with you.
The EMQ® Motion/16″ is the lightest option at just 10.7 kg and has no electric assistance. It is a good choice if keeping weight to an absolute minimum is your priority and you prefer to do all the pedalling yourself.

The EMQ® Lite/16″ weighs approximately 12.9 kg including the battery and combines exceptionally low weight with direct electric assistance. It is particularly well suited if you want to travel as lightly as possible while still enjoying electric assistance.

The EMQ® Advanced/16″ weighs approximately 14.2 kg including the battery and combines a torque sensor with automatic 2-speed gearing to offer the most natural and comfortable electric riding experience within the EMQ® range.

What is the main difference between the EMQ® Motion/16″, Lite/16″ and Advanced/16″?

The main difference is the balance between weight, electric assistance and riding comfort.
At 10.7 kg, the Motion/16″ is the lightest EMQ® and has no motor. The Lite/16″ adds electric assistance while remaining exceptionally light at 12.9 kg including the battery. At approximately 14.2 kg, the Advanced/16″ is slightly heavier, but offers a torque sensor and automatic 2-speed gearing for a more natural, dynamic riding experience.

In short: choose Motion if keeping weight to a minimum is your priority, Lite if you want minimum weight with electric assistance, and Advanced if you place greater importance on electric riding comfort.

Should I choose an electric or non-electric folding bike?

That mainly depends on how much assistance you would like while riding.
A non-electric folding bike is lighter and simpler. There is no battery to charge and you provide all the pedalling power yourself. That makes the Motion/16″ an appealing choice if keeping the weight as low as possible is most important to you.

If you would like to cover longer distances more comfortably, make headwinds easier to manage or reduce the effort required, an electric folding bike offers additional comfort. Within the EMQ® range, you can choose between the lightweight, direct assistance of the Lite/16″ and the more natural, dynamic assistance of the Advanced/16″.

Which is right for me: the EMQ® Lite/16″ or Advanced/16″?

Choose the Lite/16″ if keeping the weight as low as possible is your main priority. At 12.9 kg including the battery, it is the lightest electric folding bike in the EMQ® range. Its cadence sensor provides direct and steady assistance as soon as you start pedalling.
Choose the Advanced/16″ if you place greater importance on a natural riding experience and automatic shifting. Its torque sensor adapts the assistance to the amount of force you apply to the pedals, while the automatic 2-speed gearing shifts for you as you ride.

When is the EMQ® Motion/16″ a better choice than an electric folding bike?

The Motion/16″ is a good choice if you are mainly looking for an exceptionally lightweight and compact folding bike and do not need electric assistance.

At just 10.7 kg, it is particularly easy to lift and take with you. There is no battery to charge and, thanks to the automatic 2-speed gearing, there is no need to shift gears manually while riding.

How important is weight when choosing a folding bike?

Weight plays a bigger role with a folding bike than with many conventional bikes, because you are more likely to lift or carry it, or place it in a car, train, motorhome or boat.
That is why it is worth looking not only at specifications and electric assistance, but also at the bike’s total weight. With an electric folding bike, the weight including the battery is particularly relevant, as this is the weight you will actually be lifting in everyday use.

Within the EMQ® range, weights run from 10.7 kg for the Motion/16″ to approximately 14.2 kg including the battery for the Advanced/16″.

Should I choose a cadence sensor or a torque sensor?

A cadence sensor is well suited if you prefer clear, direct and steady electric assistance. As soon as you start pedalling, the Lite/16″ activates your selected assistance level.
A torque sensor is better suited if you want the assistance to respond more naturally to your own effort. The Advanced/16″ measures how much force you are applying to the pedals and adjusts the motor assistance accordingly.

Neither system is better for everyone. The main difference is the type of riding experience you prefer.

Which EMQ® is best if I need to lift my folding bike often?

If keeping weight to an absolute minimum is most important, the Motion/16″ is the lightest option at 10.7 kg.

If you would like to combine electric assistance with low weight, the Lite/16″ is the lightest electric EMQ® at 12.9 kg including the battery.

The Advanced/16″ weighs approximately 14.2 kg including the battery and is especially appealing if, alongside relatively low weight, you also value more natural assistance and automatic shifting.

Which EMQ® is best for travelling by car, motorhome, caravan, boat or train?

All three EMQ® models have been designed to be compact and easy to take with you. They fold in just three steps and have an exceptionally narrow folded size.

Which model suits you best mainly depends on the type of assistance you prefer. The Motion/16″ offers the lowest weight, the Lite/16″ combines low weight with electric assistance, and the Advanced/16″ offers greater electric riding comfort.

If you need to lift the bike frequently, the difference in weight may be particularly important.

Is it best to compare all three EMQ® models during a test ride?

Yes. Specifications give you a good first impression, but you will notice the differences between the models most clearly when you actually ride and lift them.

During a test ride, you can experience how much difference the weight makes to you, how the direct assistance of the Lite/16″ feels, and how the torque sensor and automatic gearing of the Advanced/16″ respond while riding. You can also try different handlebars, saddles and riding positions.

This will help you discover which combination of weight, assistance and comfort best suits the way you plan to use your folding bike.
